The ICC team rankings serve as a benchmark for assessing the performance of cricket teams across different formats. Updated regularly, these rankings reflect the current standing of teams based on their recent performances. Factors such as wins, losses, draws, and other statistical measures contribute to a team’s ranking. The rankings provide fans, players, and stakeholders with valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of teams. They shape expectations and discussions around upcoming matches and tournaments.

Australia, the reigning champions of the ICC World Test Championship, have now scaled the summit of the ICC Men’s Test team rankings. They have displaced India from their perch.

In the latest update of the annual ICC team rankings, Australia’s spirited outfit, led by Pat Cummins, has ascended to the coveted No.1 position in Test cricket. This rise follows their stellar performance in the World Test Championship final. They secured a resounding 209-run victory over India at The Oval last year.

Australia’s triumph not only solidified their status as the ultimate Test team but also bolstered their rating to a commanding 124 points, placing them four points ahead of runners-up India. Meanwhile, England trails Australia by a notable margin of 19 points in third place.

The reshuffle at the top of the Test rankings marks the most significant change in the latest update. South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Bangladesh maintain their respective positions from fourth to ninth, with ratings ranging from 103 to 53 points.

It’s crucial to note that the team rankings update considers teams’ performances from May 2021 onwards. It gives full weight to results achieved in the subsequent 12 months. Notably, India’s series victory over Australia in January 2021 falls outside this evaluation period.

Despite conceding the top spot in Test cricket, India continues to lead in white-ball formats. They have extended their lead in ODI cricket by six rating points over Australia.

In essence, Australia’s ascent to the top of the Test rankings underscores their dominance in the longer format of the game. This sets the stage for an intriguing battle for supremacy in the months to come.
